Compagnie Christiane Blaise - bureaux

The Christiane Blaise company [1984-2007]

It was in 1980, returning from a round-the-world trip that Christiane Blaise founded the group, Le Pied à Coulisse, in Grenoble, surrounded by a team of dancers, musicians, a costume designer and a stage manager.
In 1984, she created her own company and in 1996, was welcomed into l’Hexagone - the national arena in Meylan - in an artistic partnership which lasted six years, as the choreographer and her team built up a choreographic dynamic throughout the region. In 2000, she rose to the occasion of the 9th Biennial of Dance in Lyon, on the theme of the silk routes, with the piece named : Alerte à la soie !.

Boosted by support from the Grenoble City council, the Isère district council, the Rhône-Alpes regional council and the Ministry for culture and communication, the company was awarded the status of « compagnie chorégraphique conventionnée », commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Communication and became a company for Rhône-Alpes.
After around thirty productions, the company focused its activities around creation, broadcasting creations, professional dance training and building awareness amongst various communities.

In 2007, when le Pacifique became a Choreographic Development Center, Christiane Blaise chose to stop her company.
Christiane Blaise

There was no telling that this German scholar, with a degree in philosophy from the University of Fribourg (Germany) and Halle (East Germany) would become a choreographer… except perhaps for her education which left immense freedom for the imagination, flair and navigation à vue ! Her route to success has been more than unusual as she went straight to being a well-established choreographer without ever having been a performer.

On her return from the United States, she founded her company in Grenoble in 1984, and from then on, creations materialized one after another, each stamped with her personal style drawing on the American streams, and more particularly on the movement of Trisha Brown.

Throughout her artistic career, Christiane Blaise persisted in her aim to instil life and defy boredom. In 2000, she clinched her first contract, with the Dance Biennale in Lyon, and sought inspiration from her travel journal for the theme of the silk routes

At the same time, the choreographer continued with her coaching activities, which was essential for deeper understanding of her choreographic language. Transmission is also about imagining and creating versatile, inspiring spaces in which the spectator has the opportunity to become the actor, irrespective of age, culture or social identity. She makes the audience - the energizing, enlightening, possibly even unsettling element – a part of her artistic process.
